Flight to Newark (New York)

Manhatten SkylineFlight LH 408 Düsseldorf – Newark starts on time. Thanks to favourable tailwinds the flight lasts less than 8 hours only. Just enough time to watch 3 movies provided by the personal inflight entertainment system. Unfortunately it wasn’t worth to watch any of this movies. Lufthansa really should think about their movie selection. Besides that our flight in the economy class was surprisingly comfortable. Sufficient legroom, good service and nice food. In this regard we have made much worse experiences in the past – also with “crane airline”.

Approaching Newark we have a chance to see the skyline of Manhatten. We quickly pass the immigration procedure, and our luggage is already waiting for us on the baggage belt. Unfortunately one of our suitcases is slightly damaged. So we have to see Lufthansa’s ground office to file a claim. Afterwards we take the sky train to P4 where the hotel shuttle buses depart.
Since our onward flight to Costa Rica will leave tomorrow morning only, we will spend the night in a Newark airport hotel.

The shuttle bus is already waiting and 5 minutes later we arrive at our hotel Country Inn & Suites By Carlson. This one we had choosen because of its proximity to Newark airport as well as to the Jersey Garden Outlet Mall. The largest factory outlet in Newark. The mall is in a short walking distance from the hotel. We spend some time by browsing shops and have an early dinner at Chilis. The Nachos are fine, however 8.29$ (not included tax and tip) seems to be exaggerated. Now we understand why they do not list the cocktail prices in their menue.

At 7.00 pm local time we go to bed. A perfect time for us because in Germany it is already 1:00 am.
